All about Ebola…!

When SARS hit the world in 2002, no one had estimated that it would turn out to be an epidemic and kill nearly 821 while affecting thousands across countries. A wave of terror hit the world. India too couldn't save itself from this torrent. Despite of the desperate efforts made my the WHO and other government agencies, this threat couldn't be contained.
Similar terror was witnessed when H1N1 also known as the 'Swine Flu' hit the in 2009 and 'Bird Flu' in 2012. The cause was unknown, prognosis pointless and diagnosis miles away from reality. Humanity was tormented and people were dying everywhere and even the brightest of all minds were helpless.
After these bedeviled occurrences when the dust had just began to settle and when humanity had just started to walk slowly in small steps, Ebola outbreak jolted the peace and send waves of terror around.
Ebola Virus Disease first appeared in 1976 in two simultaneous outbreaks in Nzara and Sudan and Yambuku and Congo near the Ebola river, from which the virus derives its names. Five generic varieties of this virus were identified-
a) Bundibugyo Ebola Virus (BDBV)
b) Zaire Ebola Virus (EBOV)
c) Reston Ebola Virus (RESTV)
d) Sudan Ebola Virus (SUDV)
e) Tai Forest Ebola Virus (TAFV) out of which BDBV, EBOV and SUDV have been associated with outbreaks in Africa.
This deadly disease has caused 4109 deaths so far. The impact has been such that WHO has declared it as the global epidemic. It all starts with intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and fever which is followed by vomiting, diarrhea, rashes, impaired kidney and liver function, internal and external bleeding and ultimately death.
The disease takes a time of 2-21 days to mature and is transmitted through broken skin or mucous membrane and blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people. Direct or indirect contact with the environment contaminated with such fluids also leads to transmission.
The globe is facing a new catastrophe. Hundreds of people are dying each day hundreds are getting affected each day. With the unavailability of a cure, even prevention is futile. Things are going haywire in attempt of finding a cure and humanity, its still hoping for a miracle…
